Household Move Recommendations For A Successful Relocation

Blog

The prospect of moving your entire household possessions and furniture can be a daunting task, especially when you have collected items over the years and stored them away inside your home. If you don't want to downsize your household, you can still move everything to your new residence, and hiring a moving crew is a great way to accomplish this. Here are some recommendations to help you manage and plan for your upcoming household move.

Arrange For Movers

Shop around with local moving companies to find one that will provide you with the manpower to handle your move in one to two days. There should be several packers and movers to complete the entire task. If you want to handle your own packing, you can begin packing whenever you have free time, working on it over the course of a few days or several weeks to slowly perform the preparation for the move. Just be sure you pack items securely and to protect them from breakage during the move.

Consider a Moving Evaluation

Look for a moving company that will evaluate your household for the move before the actual moving day. The moving company should send a representative to your home to calculate your possessions based on the number of rooms in your home and the addition of any outbuildings, such as storage sheds, a garage, or a barn. It is important that the movers calculate all your possessions so they can arrange for the transport truck capacity to be appropriate for your move, especially if you are moving a long distance.

You should also be able to get a written estimate of the cost of your move. This will include any fees for extra mileage for delivery at your new residence and to calculate costs for heavy or difficult items to move, such as a large gun safe, a pool table, piano, or a large aquarium. When you work with a reliable moving company, you will understand all of your moving costs and the time frame for moving items into the truck and out of the truck at your new residence.

Ask About After Move Details

Be sure you talk to your moving professionals about managing the unloading and unpacking of your possessions at your new residence. Will the movers be able to place furniture for you at your new location? Also think about if you want them to unpack some or all the boxes for you. If you choose to do your own unpacking, find out when they will be able to pick up the boxes and packing papers for recycling disposal.

Knowing What To Store

Every home is filled with items that may or may not be necessary, and my home is no different. I started having problems with the sheer volume of things in my home a few years back, and so I decided to move some things into a storage unit. I didn't know what to store at first, so a friend of mine had the great idea to help me to rent a storage unit. She worked with me to identify different things that would work well for my lifestyle, and I stored everything else. Check out this blog to find out how to store smarter every day.
