Tips For A Stress-Free Moving Day

Blog

Moving from one home to another takes a lot of planning, organization, and hard work. Many homeowners spend weeks or even months preparing for their move, and before you know it, moving day arrives. When you're planning for your move, it is essentially that you don't forget about the big day itself. Even if all of your belongings are packed and the movers are scheduled to arrive, it is still important to be on point if you want the actually moving day to go as well as possible. Use the following tips to a stress-free moving day.

Greet the Movers and Be Available to Give Instructions

When you schedule movers to arrive at a specific time, make sure that you are ready for them. Always greet the movers when they arrive and provide them with any instructions that you may have about loading specific items into the moving truck. It is a good idea to have someone available during the loading process to answer questions the movers may have or to let them know about belongings that are on the fragile side and should be handled with care.

Use an Inventory Sheet

While you're packing up your home in advance of the move, take the time to make an inventory that lists the number of boxes you have and how many pieces of furniture are being moved. When moving day arrives, both you and the movers from the moving company should have a copy of the inventory so you can make sure that all of your belongings are removed from your current home and all show up at your new home.

Let the Movers Know Where to Place Your Belongings

Unpacking a new house can be a huge task, but being organized on moving day can make the whole process easier. When the movers arrive at your new house, make sure that you or a family member are present and available to let the movers know which boxes and furniture belong in each room. This will make unpacking so much easier, since you won't have to carry boxes back and forth across the house while putting your belongings away.

Don't Forget to Tip

After all of your belongings are unloaded from the truck and placed in your new home, you will settle your bill with the movers. Before paying your bill, make sure that nothing was damaged in transport and that the final bill matches the price you were originally quoted. In addition, do not forget to give the movers if you are satisfied with their service and they did a good job.

Knowing What To Store

Every home is filled with items that may or may not be necessary, and my home is no different. I started having problems with the sheer volume of things in my home a few years back, and so I decided to move some things into a storage unit. I didn't know what to store at first, so a friend of mine had the great idea to help me to rent a storage unit. She worked with me to identify different things that would work well for my lifestyle, and I stored everything else. Check out this blog to find out how to store smarter every day.
